Why does the chain skip on a wndlass gypsy?
The two most common reasons why the chain skips on the gypsy are:
Wear of the gypsy itself – when the pockets are worn down, the chain no longer seats properly.
Incorrect chain pitch – if the pitch of the chain does not match the gypsy standard, the chain will not engage correctly.
What do we need to make a new windlass gypsy(s)?
For the fabrication of a gypsy, there are two options:
- You can send us the technical drawings or a 3D model of the gypsy you want to have made.
- You can send us the old gypsy along with 1–1.5 m of the chain for which the gypsy is being made.
What surface protection does a windlass gypsy have?
Surface protection is applied only to gypsies made of steel. They are coated with a two-component paint resistant to marine conditions. Gypsies made of stainless steel or bronze do not require surface protection.
What material can a windlass gypsy be made from?
For the fabrication of a gypsy, we most commonly use bronze, stainless steel, and steel.
A gypsy can also be made from other materials according to your preference (e.g., brass, aluminum, etc.).

Shipping is carried out via DHL worldwide. You can choose DHL Freight (road transport) or DHL Air (air transport), depending on the urgency of the delivery and your location.
